Repair Center and Shop Filtering

This article discusses how repair center and shop filtering is applied and how it can be used while working in MC Express.

ClosedRepair Center Filtering

Default Repair Center filtering is defined on the Settings page, and remains in effect as you work in MC Express. This allows you to efficiently filter to the records that are most important to you.

You can also see records for all repair centers by selecting the All Repair Centers option on the Settings page.

ClosedFiltering Behavior

The effect of the Repair Center filter differs depending on the type of data you are accessing.

Work Orders

All work orders must have a Repair Center. If you use a Repair Center filter, only work orders from that Repair Center will be returned.

Assets

Repair Center filtering for assets differs depending on whether you are viewing the Hierarchy or List.

  • Asset Hierarchy Scenario 1 — Repair Center filtering does not affect the display of the Asset Hierarchy. All accessible assets and locations appear regardless of any filtering defined on the Settings page.

  • Asset Hierarchy Scenario 2 — Repair Center filtering does affect the display of the Asset Hierarchy. All locations display in the Asset Hierarchy regardless of Repair Center filtering, but equipment only displays if it has the correct Repair Center or no Repair Center.

  • Asset List — Equipment and locations both only display in the list if they have the correct Repair Center or no Repair Center.

Parts

The Part List filters to parts recorded in Stock Rooms tied to the currently filtered Repair Center. If a part is not associated with a specific Stock Room, it will always display, as only the Stock Room has a Repair Center association.

Lookups

Default Repair Center filtering is in effect when any lookup is opened. This filter can be changed for the given search by tapping the Repair Center button on the far right of the gray header bar. Changing the Repair Center filter from the lookup only affects the retrieval of records on the lookup. It does not change the global Repair Center that is specified on the Settings page. If you only have access to a single Repair Center, this button will not display.

If Repair Center is not a required field in the lookup, the results that return will include any records with no value for Repair Center. To explicitly filter to records with a particular Repair Center, select Repair Center from the Search menu and enter the desired value.

ClosedFilter Assets that either have or do not have a Repair Center

The Repair Center field is often not populated on asset records. As such, records without a value for Repair Center are included by default in Asset List results. You can use filtering options to include or exclude asset records that have a Repair Center value.

To filter asset records by Repair Center:

  1. Change your Repair Center Settings to All Repair Centers.

  2. (missing or bad snippet)

  3. Select Home.

  4. Tap the Asset List option.

  5. (missing or bad snippet)
  6. Select Repair Center from the Select Field field.

  7. (missing or bad snippet)

    • Select is empty from the second field to exclude assets that have a repair center.

    • Select is not empty from the second field to exclude assets that do not have a repair center.

    • Select is to open a Repair Center lookup and choose the repair centers whose assets you want to view.

See the Filter Operator Behaviors section to learn more about how to use filter operators.

ClosedShop Filtering

Default Shop filtering is defined on the Settings page, and remains in effect as you work in MC Express. This allows you to efficiently filter to the records that are most important to you.

You can also see records for all shops by selecting the All Shops option on the Settings page.

ClosedFiltering Behavior

The effect of the Shop filter differs depending on the type of data you are accessing.

Work Orders

Although Shop is not a required field for work orders, it is used for routing and assignment. If a default Shop is specified on the Settings page, only work orders tied to that Shop will be returned on the Work Order List. Work orders without a Shop defined will not be included, unless your default Shop filter setting is All Shops.

Assets

Shop filtering for assets differs depending on whether you are viewing the Hierarchy or List.

  • Asset Hierarchy Scenario 1Shop filtering does not affect the display of the Asset Hierarchy. All accessible assets and locations display, regardless of any filtering defined on the Settings page.

  • Asset Hierarchy Scenario 2Shop filtering does affect the display of the Asset Hierarchy. All locations display in the Asset Hierarchy regardless of Shop filtering, but equipment only displays if it has the correct Shop or no Shop.

  • Asset List — Equipment and locations only display on the list if they have the correct Shop or no Shop.

ClosedFilter Assets that either have or do not have a Shop

The Shop field is often not populated on asset records. As such, records without a value for Shop are included by default in list results.

To filter asset records by Shop:

  1. Change your Repair Center Settings to All Shops.

  2. (missing or bad snippet)

  3. Select Home.

  4. Tap the Asset List option.

  5. (missing or bad snippet)
  6. Select Shop from the Select Field field.

  7. (missing or bad snippet)

    • Select is empty from the second field to exclude assets that have a shop.

    • Select is not empty from the second field to exclude assets that do not have a shop.

    • Select is to open a Repair Center lookup and choose the shops whose assets you want to view.

See the Filter Operator Behaviors section to learn more about how to use filter operators.

ClosedRepair Center and Shop Filters Not Available?

If you have a Repair Center or Shop filter on the Settings page, it is automatically added to any filter criteria you have specified. You will not see Repair Center or Shop options in the Select Field field on the Filter page. You may see a Repair Center button in the upper-right corner of the Filter page, which will allow you to change the filtering for that search.

If you only have access to one Repair Center, you will never see an option to change that repair center.
