Smart Search

Reports can be configured to allow you to dynamically search for data in columns in the Report Preview window. This feature provides an expedient method to find data in reports with extensive records. When this feature is available, a search row displays above the report records, allowing you to enter search criteria.

Once a value is entered into one of these fields, the report results refresh, listing the records that match your search criter. The characters that match are highlighted in yellow. Depending on how the report has been configured, different options may be available to filter the column.

Smart Search can also be set up to display a single search prompt that searches all columns in the report. When a single prompt is displayed above the report records, all columns in the report will be searched for the value entered. This feature is set up from the Smart Elements > Smart Search tab.

On multiple page reports, Smart Search only executes against the first page of records returned. In addition, smart search filters will not work when other smart actions, such as editable report columns, are displayed on the report.

To use the Smart Search feature:

  • Enter the value you want to search into the appropriate search field.

As you begin typing, the records dynamically filter to those that match the value entered.

If the report contains extensive records, you must press Enter on your keyboard to initiate the search. This results in better performance, ensuring the query only occurs once after you have entered your complete criteria.

  • To search in a column:

    1. Click the search field.

      A menu of options opens.

    2. Select from the available options.

As an option is selected, the records on the report filter to those that match the value.

  • To search in a column that has a checklist:

    1. Click the search field.

      A menu of options opens.

    2. Select one or more of the available options.

As options are selected, the records on the report will filter to those that match the values.
