Global Search

Global Search searches key fields in work orders, assets, and parts. Specifically, the following fields are evaluated in the search process:

  • Work Orders: Work Order #, Reason / Description, Asset, Requester, Problem, Taken By, Assignee Name, Actual Labor Name, Part

  • Assets: Asset, Classification, Model, Asset Part, Serial #

  • Parts: Part, Description, Internal Part Number, Vendor Part Number

If you want to search for a value that is stored in a different field, you should use a filter. For example, if you want to quickly find all the work orders tied to a particular project or account, you could use the Filter page to quickly set up a filter that would return those records.

Global search returns only open work orders. Depending on your system configuration, the results might honor Repair Center or Shop filtering on the Settings page.

If you do not have access to the All Open work order filter, search results for work orders only include work orders assigned to you that are not yet complete.

ClosedQuick Search

Search results do not allow filtering. Conducting a global search clears out any filter criteria you defined prior to executing the search.

To do a quick global search of records:

  1. Tap the Menu button in the upper-right corner of the page.

The menu opens, with a search field at the top. If you are using a mobile device, both a Search and Scan button appear, allowing you to use your camera to scan a barcode. If you are using a computer, only the Search button appears.

  2. Enter your search criteria in the field.

To search for work orders assigned to a particular individual, enter part or all of their Labor ID or Name in the Search field.

  3. Tap the Search button.

If only one matching record is found, you are taken directly to the summary page for the record.

If there are multiple matching records:

    1. Select a row.

MC Express takes you to the corresponding list of matching records—for example, a list of open work orders with a specific part.

    2. Select the record you want to open.

ClosedNavigate Between Records

Search Results remain in effect until they are cleared. If you have selected a record from the Global Search Results List, you can return to the list at any time by using the Back button or the List button on the blue footer bar.

The previously accessed Search Results page displays.

ClosedClear Search Results

To return to regular list contents:

  1. Tap the Search Results section of the gray header bar.

The available list options display in a dialog box. In the Work Order module, you can choose from the lists displayed on the Home Page, including any Custom Filters that have been defined. In the Asset module, you can reset to the full Asset List. In the Parts module, you can choose between the full Parts List and the Stocked Parts List.

  2. Select the option you want to view.

The page refreshes. Your global search criteria are cleared and the gray header bar displays the name of the active list.

The Filter button appears in the gray header bar. The Filter button is hidden when global search criteria are in effect, as you cannot further filter those results.

ClosedFiltering

The global search feature is just one method available in MC Express to locate records. Lists can also be filtered to quickly find desired records.

Search results retrieved through a global search cannot be filtered. As such, the Filter button does not display on the gray header bar.

To return to a standard list, follow the Clear Search Results procedures above.
